Cognitive Science Major - Arts (Language and Cognition Stream) (Arts Program) - ASMAJ1445B

Today’s cognitive scientists are more interested than ever before in the way language is represented and processed in the human mind, and how these processes relate to language in machines. The study of Language and Cognition explores how language is represented and processed in the mind and brain, and how it shapes the way people think, reason, and communicate.

This is a limited enrolment program. Students must have completed 4.0 credits and meet the requirements listed below to enrol. There are two program request periods in late Spring and late Summer. Due to the limited enrolment nature of this program students are strongly advised to apply in the first program request period.

Variable Minimum Grade Average
A minimum grade average in required courses is needed for entry, and this minimum changes each year depending on available spaces and the number of applicants. The following courses must be completed:

COG100H1 and
• 0.5 credits in LIN ( LIN102H1 recommended) and
• 0.5 credit in CSC, PHL, or PSY.

For reasons of limited capacity, applicants with a final grade average lower than 70% in these required courses will not be considered for admission. Please note that obtaining this minimum final grade average does not guarantee admission to the program.

Notes:
If more than 1.0 credits have been completed from LIN, CSC, PHL, or PSY, the grade average will be based on the higher course grades.

Students are responsible for checking co- and prerequisites for all courses. Not all courses are offered on a regular basis. A list of approved Cognitive Science courses can be found on the website: https://www.uc.utoronto.ca/cognitive-science. For any questions, please email cognitive.science@utoronto.ca.
