Approved policy changes in the following areas (in effect September 1, 2026):
Petitions and Appeals
Petitions for Examinations
The policy has been revised to incorporate petitions for examination re-writes into the at most three opportunities for students to write a final examination - the originally scheduled examination and at most two additional opportunities, if granted by petition (deferred, re-deferred, and/or re-write). The policy also now clarifies the parameters within which a petition for an examination re-write may be granted, as well as the outcome of such a petition being granted.
Withdrawal and Return from Absence
Final Standing for Newly Admitted Students
The definition of the final standing in at least one course that allows newly admitted students to continue their studies in the Faculty of Arts & Science without re-applying for admission has been expanded and standardized across policies to include any final mark, CR/NCR, P/FL, LWD, and WDR.
Cancelling Registration
This policy has been revised to reflect the expanded definition for newly admitted students of final standing in at least one course.
Return from Absence
This revised policy clarifies when previously registered students who have not been registered in the Faculty for at least 12 months are required to re-apply for admission and when they are eligible to re-register. The revised policy also introduces deadlines for students to re-register, as well as a new requirement that students who, while not registered, pursued studies at another institution without pre-approval must re-apply for admission.
