The Certificate in Spanish Language enhances visibility and formally acknowledges students who are already taking SPA courses in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese but have no further plans to complete a program. Spanish language skills directly benefit students in programs such as International Relations, History, and Sociology by equipping them with the tools to analyze primary sources, engage with case studies, and conduct research in Spanish-speaking contexts. For students in health sciences, engineering or business programs, Spanish provides both essential communicative skills and cross-cultural training. These competencies give students a competitive advantage, enabling them to collaborate effectively in diverse environments or expand their reach into Spanish-speaking markets and communities worldwide.
This is an open enrolment Certificate. A student who has completed 4.0 credits may enrol in the Certificate. This Certificate is not open to students enrolled in a Specialist, Major, or Minor in Spanish.
