In this course students consider how racial difference, disability, and associated concepts emerge and are mobilized in a series of literary and filmic texts of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries from a range of locales in the Americas. Topics of discussion will include the ongoing roles of colonial violence, eugenic notions of normalcy and deviation, and the expression of individual and collective vulnerabilities. Restricted to first-year students. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.
