This course explores how gender is constructed and contested across Asian textual traditions, historical contexts, and contemporary societies. Students will develop critical tools for analyzing the relationship among religion, embodiment, and power. Topics may include gender roles, sexual ethics, same-sex sexual desire, gender non-conformity, and women's movements.
