NEW103H1: Digital Technology, Society, and Power

12L/24S

In this course, we will examine what makes digital technologies so crucial today and how and why they are such a central item in our lives. Importantly, we will question their alleged neutrality, by reflecting on who owns them and who benefits from them; how and why they have become an important instrument of power; how they can be used to manipulate and mislead, exclude and to make visible, empower and annihilate. The course engages students' own experience of digital technology. Restricted to first-year students. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.
