This course investigates key dimensions of environmental justice in relation to a variety of case studies. It examines the justice implications of toxic legacies, and future directions in research and action at a time of many environmental crises. Students will analyse how different actors - including human and more than human species - intersect with multiple vulnerabilities including class, racialized, and gendered identities across issues like biodiversity loss, climate change, and energy poverty. As a capstone course, there are a number of hands on activities that help students connect theoretical concepts with cases of environmental injustice and mobilizations.
