This course explores the tension of sacred and profane as related to ideas and constructions of the feminine. We will examine conceptions of female divinity, as found in religious texts and practices, and consider the legal, social, and cultural effects of these conceptions on the lives of girls, women, and others. Restricted to first-year students. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.
