This course introduces students to the theory and practice of rhetoric, the art of persuasion. Students will learn about the roots of rhetoric in empire, science, and political, legal, and educational institutions and how rhetoric intersects with other disciplines. Through analyzing a variety of texts and performances for rhetorical structure and style students will learn how speakers and writers persuade audiences to adopt their point of view.
