RLG213H1: Interpreting Sacred Texts

This course surveys interpretive approaches, methods, and traditions related to sacred texts. It covers a range of interpretive strategies such as textual emendation, commentary, visual interpretation, feminist retellings, and queer readings. The specific religious traditions, texts, and approaches will vary depending on the instructor. Students will increase their content knowledge of selected texts and their ability to critically engage texts. Prior exposure to the study of religion is not required. All readings will be in English.
