This course is designed as a continued practicum in archaeological field methods from NMC 290. As a second-level field course, continued emphasis will be placed on active participation in the ongoing research programs of the Gadachrili Gora Regional Archaeological Project Expedition (G.R.A.P.E.) in the Republic of Georgia or Life by the Imperial Roads Project in Romania. Students will receive additional training in archaeological excavation methodology, recording procedures, and the processing of samples and artifacts. Detailed lectures and presentations on archaeological method and theory as well as the archaeology and culture of the region will supplement the primary focus on field experience. All students are eligible to participate. No prior field experience is necessary. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.
