Jews of all sorts today are the product of historical processes that have changed the place of religion in their lives, their intellectual and moral outlook, their political standing and aspirations, their social relations and opportunities, and their means and modes of culture expression. In this course, we will try to understand the forces and counterforces as well as the decisions and reactions that determine ways of being Jews in the modern world.
